To help develop a regional
network, RTRC Asia partners with international and
regional organisations like UNICEF and PLAN International.
RTRC Asia has played host to several regional conferences
on early childhood care and education, which have
drawn international participation. These include
"Community Involvement in the Care and Education
of Young Children", "Children Without
Childhood", "Parents as Catalysts",
"Children of Urban Families", "Young
Children, Families and the Community: An Integrated
Approach to Early Childhood Care and Development".
Through its network and collaboration with the various
related organisations, RTRC Asia has also organised
and led several study missions to countries like
China, Sweden, Vietnam and Australia.
Regional
Training Programmes
Over the past years, RTRC Asia has been requested
to train early childhood educators from ASEAN, ASIA
and Asia Pacific through the SCP of the Ministry
of Foreign Affairs. The SCP aims to provide training
attachments and courses to developing countries
to provide assistance to their social and economic
development. In developing these training courses
under the SCP, RTRC Asia works closely with UNICEF
and the countries concerned to design programmes
that would best meet the needs of the participants.
RTRC Asia has conducted Certificate courses in Child
Development and Early Childhood Education, Train-the-Trainers
programmes that stretch from 1-week intensive courses
to 3-month intensive courses.
Essentially, these courses are
tailored to the participants' needs and interests
as they work in different settings, ranging from
providing family day-care to group care settings,
community work and parent education. RTRC Asia's
courses aim to provide participants with the latest
knowledge in early childhood development and education
and the necessary skills that these participants
will need in order to bring about changes in their
pedagogical practices and programmes for children
and families.
Each year, RTRC Asia conducts
one to two customised training sessions for participants
who are community workers, leaders and educators
from the various countries representing these international
organisations.
