The University of South Australia has a long tradition

It was established in January 1991 by new statute
and charter, but its origin date back into the last
century with its antecedent institutions of the South
Australian School of Mines and Industries formed in
1889 and Adelaide School of Arts in 1856, the Adelaide
Teachers' College in 1876 and the Adelaide Kindergarten
Training College in 1907.
The University
offers qualifications from undergraduate to PhD levels
in some 40 professional disciplines and has established
a strong teaching and research reputation in applied
science, art and design, engineering, health sciences,
management and commerce, teacher education, and social
sciences.

The de Lissa Institute of Early Childhood and Family
Studies is situated within the Division of Education,
Arts and Social Sciences, within the University of
South Australia. The Institute dates back to 1907
when the first kindergarten Training College was opened
under the direction of Lillian de Lissa, a pioneer
the field of early childhood.
The de Lissa
Institute today is a centre of excellence for early
childhood and family studies at both the national
and international levels. The de Lissa Research Centre
is an active research area such as early childhood
teacher education, child development, childcare and
family studies. It sponsors the work of research fellows
and has a fellowship funds that attracts research
fellows from Australia and overseas.
